Guldmann Active Micro Plus – Toileting and Hygiene Sling

The Guldmann Active Micro Plus sling is the ideal toileting sling for moving users who require access to the toilet and/or commode.

Manufactured form a  hard wearing polyester fabric, with a slide sheet like surface to make application and retrieval easier, it combines support with comfort, enabling the sling to be used for a range of persons, who cannot use traditional toileting slings.

It has a unique elastic chest strap, that tightens as the body extends, meaning there is no loss of support, this combines with the non slip panel in the back of the sling to provide excellent support, even for users with failing upper body strength.

Ease of use

With it’s supportive and padded legs this versatile sling is easy to apply and retrieve, and the structure of the sling means that it stays flat underneath the users legs, increasing comfort. The high quality polyester woven fabric glides into position with minimum effort, making putting the sling on and taking it off easy for the carer and comfortable for the user.

Support and Comfort combined

Padded arm supports combined with a large backrest area on the sling means that the Active Micro Plus offers fantastic support for users with decreasing upper body strength. The chest strap is a dual fasten stretch fabric, which can be removed for washing. It is also available to purchase separately if required. A large, comfortable non slip panel in the back of the sling ensures users do not pull through, and preventing damage to the shoulders.

Capacity and sizing

The Active Micro Plus has a lifting capacity of up to 255 kg. It is available in a range of sizes from Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large. It can be washed in temperatures of up to 80° c.

ceiling mounted hoist ceiling mounted hoist

Featured Product – GH1 Patient Hoist

The GH1 patient hoist – Compact, powerful, reliable and discreet

The GH1 patient hoist has been designed to deal with day-to-day lifting needs typically encountered in private homes, schools, sheltered accommodation and nursing homes. It takes up little space, is easy to operate and helps make lifting and moving processes safe, simple and comfortable for user and care staff alike. All GH1 lifting modules are user-friendly, powerful and fast; they are designed for permanent/semi-permanent installation in ceiling- or wall-mounted rails. The unit is operated via a simple hand control unit, quickly and easily lifting users weighing up to 255 kg .

The soft exterior conceals a hard heart. Lithium Ion batteries combined with a twin speed motor create a hard working, reliable hoist that will lift over and over again without letting you down.

Some of the other great features include:

1. Design

The GH1 ceiling hoist has a choice of side panels, enabling the hoist to be personalised for the user. Inserts can also be added to blend the track into the ceiling or create an image of the users choice.

2. Hoist Charging

The lifting module is charged by placing the hand control in the GH1 docking station. A fully charged lifting module can perform more than 55 lifts of 85 kg.

3. Simple Removal

The GH1Q model can be removed from the track without the need of tools.

Featured Product – GH3 Patient Hoist

The GH3 patient hoist – effective lifting and moving

The GH3 patient hoist is a powerful ceiling hoist designed to operate in the toughest environments. Advanced digital technology combined with a constant charge system, constantly monitors the usage of the hoist, ensuring batteries are maintained in optimum condition. The GH3 can be specified with integral scales, care lift management and servicing modules, enabling detailed management of the hoist, to ensure it is being used and maintained correctly.

Every feature of the GH3 hoist has been thought out in minute detail – the constant charge system ensures that the hoist is always available and ready for use, reducing user error and minimising call outs. The hoist constantly monitors the battery life to ensure they cannot be permanently damaged by misuses whilst the latest technology Lithium Ion batteries themselves are designed for maximum life span.

The GH3 module charges itself through the rails, irrespective of where in the system the lifting module is positioned. This ensures that the ceiling hoist is always ready to use. It is designed specifically for the working conditions that are typical in professional care settings.

Red Dot award-winning design

The prize was awarded with the following observations from the panel of judges:

“With the GH3, the developers manage to create a ceiling hoist system that would blend harmoniously into the surrounding architecture and not look like a technical device. The GH3 is therefore characterised by a simple, elegant design that communicates high value and functionality. Developed for versatile application and different work processes, it can be used in all lifting and transfer situations and includes features such as automatically recharging batteries, low rolling resistance and intuitive hand controls.”

patient hoist scales

Featured Product – Guldmann Class III Digital Scales

Guldmann Class III integrated Digital Scales for ceiling hoists – making weighing simple

We are pleased to announce that we can now offer Class 3 approved medical patient hoist scales built into the GH3+ ceiling hoist.

Traditionally scales have been fitted as a additional unit between the spreader bar and lifting tape, which has resulted in a loss of lifting height. Old fashioned scales can also get lost or be mislaid, and furthermore is difficult to clean leading to cross infection concerns in hospitals.

All of these concerns are alleviated with the new integrated patient hoist scales. The entire mechanism is contained with the body of the hoist, meaning there is no loss of lift height. An easy to read digital handset provides the reading making it easy for staff to read ad record. As there is no extra unit, everything is built into the hoist, there are no parts to get lost, also removing the need for additional cleaning at the same time.

The new scales make work processes simple by making it easy to weigh the patient/user in conjunction with everyday care procedures. The scale complies with the requirements for medical weight Class III precision, in accordance with EU Directive 2014/31/EU.

High Weight Capacity

As the scale is built into the hoist, this also give the advantage of increasing the weight capacity of the scales. the new scales are available with the following lift capacities.

  • 200kg
  • 250kg
  • 275kg
  • 300kg
  • 350kg
  • 375kg
  • 400kg
  • 500kg

Weigh with confidence

Completely self adjusting, these digital scales combine the latest microprocessor technology available for measuring instruments and provides accurate repeated weight data with a calibrated accuracy of 0.1%. This means that you can lift and weigh in complete confidence, assured of the accuracy of the scales

Patient Hoist Scales that are easy to use

Automatic resetting of the scales with the help of a push button makes weighing patients fast and easy. Multicare offer a full training programme to ensure that your staff are fully confident in using the equipment.

hero mobile hoist

Featured Product – Hero Mobile Hoist

Use of mobile hoists

The use of a mobile hoist has become an integral part of delivering health and social care services, greatly reducing musculoskeletal injury risks to carers and making them popular in many different care environments. With concerns of safety in mind hoists have been implemented into many moving and handling applications.

Selection of equipment

The right selection for hoisting equipment can reduce the number of carers required for a task and more importantly reduce physical loading on the carer/s however the selection of the wrong equipment drastically increases the risks of injury both to the patient and to the carer.

Hidden Costs of Injury

Last year, the rate of musculoskeletal injury in the healthcare industry was a shocking 1600 per 100,000 workers! Any case of injury or damage imposes ‘human’ costs (in terms of the impact on the individual’s quality of life, associated distress, and, for fatal injuries, loss of life), as well as the ‘financial’ costs.

Introducing  the Hero mobile hoist

We believe that our hoists are heroes hence the name “HERO HOISTS”

The Hero comes in 3 sizes making them suitable for every application. The MaxiHero offers an impressive lifting height capability, while the MediHero offers excellent all round capabilities. The MiniHero is perfect for smaller rooms and compact environments.

The safe working load (SWL) of these hoists ranges from 135 kg (21 stone) to 175 kg (27 1/2 stone)

In addition to being strong and silent , as a result of its high quality Linak motors the Hero will serve you for many years due to its exceptionally ridged steel frame and quality components.

The Hero range is backed by an impressive 5 year structural warranty and a 2 year warranty on all castors and electrical parts.

In Situ Slings

Featured Product – In Situ Slings

What is an In Situ sling?

In Situ slings (formerly called all day slings) are a type of sling that can be left underneath a user for a limited amount of time. They are called in situ slings as they can be left “In Situation” or underneath a user for a limited period of time.

Why would I use an In Situ sling?

There are a number of reasons why in situ slings are used, however it is important to remember they are not a substitute for good nursing care. Factors that might indicate a strong case for the use of in situ slings include

  • Where it is extremely difficult to remove the sling from beneath a patient, for example if they have a moulded wheelchair or for users that have very low body tone.
  • To save time – situations where removing the sling is time consuming and a large number of transfers are being carried out daily.
  • To save distress to the user associated with removing the sling.
  • If the user has fragile skin, removing the sling could cause shear damage to the skin.

How long can I leave an in situ sling underneath a user?

As stated above, an in situ sling is not a substitute for quality nursing care, and the length of time you can leave a sling underneath a user depends on a number of factors. A documented risk assessment and care plan must always be carried out on an in situ sling prior to use, and the results of this will determine the amount of time a sling can be left underneath a user. Factors to consider may include.

  • Does the user have any skin integrity issues?
  • Are they liable to overheating?
  • How tight is the fit of the wheelchair?
  • How comfortable is the sling when in place/

What sizes are available?

In situ slings are available in a wide range of sizes to suit most needs. They are very common in schools, where parents/carers can put the sling on in the morning, ready for care staff to hoist immediately at school. The following standard sizes are kept in stock.

  • XXXS – XS for Children – Up to 58 Kg
  • Small – Large for adults
  • XXL – XXXL for larger adults – Up to 220 Kg
  • Custom made slings are also available for users with specific needs such as Scoliosis or Kyphosis

What fabrics are available?

In situ slings are available in a range of fabrics to suit users needs. The most common fabrics are listed below.

  • Superfine – a very fine mesh fabric with Coolmax to prevent overheating in the sling. Ideal for children and small adult, only available for weights up to 58kg.
  • Superfine Plus – A High performance mesh fabric offering superior comfort. The mesh is breathable, helping to combat overheating and compresses to provide high levels of comfort and support. The Safe Working Load is 220kg. SUITABLE FOR BATHING
  • Superfine Coolmax – COOLMAX fabric is designed to move moisture away from the body and enhance fabric drying rate thus keeping users feeling cool and dry. A double layer gives a weight capacity of up to 220 kg SUITABLE FOR BATHING.
  • Parasilk – The original In situ fabric, parasilk has become less popular as it is extremely slippery, leading to repositioning issues, and it can also get very hot. It is now mainly used for moulded wheelchairs, where the user is fitted very tightly into the chair.

Patient specific Slings

The case for Patient specific Slings

The case for Patient Specific Slings

Why use Patient Specific slings? Read on to find out more…

Whilst the use of hoists and patient slings has greatly improved the quality of manual handling in hospitals, it is apparent that the use of one sling by multiple patients could lead to other health implications and often will not produce the optimum patient or economic outcome.

Multi-user slings present risks of cross infection when users are at their most vulnerable. They are also expensive to launder and tend to get lost either on the ward or in the laundry process.

Related risks

It would be difficult to overstate the implications of cross-infection on the wellbeing of patients, in some cases going as far as a fatal outcome, and in addition there are the costs of treatment, hospitalisation and care. It has been calculated that every additional day in a hospital bed costs £400.00, for a patient to stay for an extra week in hospital due to an avoidable hospital acquired infection because a £12.00 sling was not used, is a waste of resources.

The cost, inconvenience and associated risks of lost slings is also a burden to any institution or hospital.

Guldmann Patient Specific slings – specific hygiene requirements

The Guldmann Patient Specific sling or “disposable slings” are constructed from a special woven Polypropylene fabric designed for use multiple time. They combine safety, comfort and durability in a rugged design and are perfect for use in institutions and hospital wards.

These slings can easily be disposed of after the patient has been discharged, or immediately after use if it has become wet and/or soiled.

Bariatric versions

Do you have bariatric requirements? If so read on…

With a Safe Working Load of 350kg (55 stone) and sizes of up to 3XL, the Guldmann Patient Specific bariatric range is second to none. The slings are comfortable and easy to apply, with a large range of additional accessories available such as leg lifters, turning devices and other specialist aids.

Am I using the correct sling?

Using the appropriate sling is essential for efficient transfers to ensure comfort, dignity and safety for the user and the care provider. We can conduct sling assessments and sling clinics to ensure suitability and give you peace of mind.

Introducing A New Sling Tagging System

We’re pleased to inform you that after reviewing our current sling tagging process, we have decided to implement a new sling tagging system.

The new sling tagging process will ensure that your slings are safe to use and clearly state when their next LOLER inspection is due.

Problems with existing solutions:

  • Lack of traceability.
  • Current tags can get in the way when using your sling.
  • Some providers handwrite the LOLER dates on the tag which looks unprofessional.
  • The tags are large and unpleasant to look at.
  • Not all providers tag their slings, making it harder for users to recognise if their sling has been LOLER tested.

Our solution on the other hand:

  • Our new sling tag is smaller and discreet, making it more appealing to look upon.
  • The LOLER dates are instantly visible and the sling tag is wash resistant.
  • The new sling tag can be applied to any sling.
  • Our new design means that it will not be uncomfortable when using your sling.
  • The tag cannot be removed and put on a different sling.

Read more on LOLER 1998 Regulations here.

Please Contact Us for more details regarding our new sling tagging system.
