University Changing Places are becoming all the rage as forward thinking university’s wake up to the potential of less able learners. The Gloucestershire University is one such organization. In their newly opened Oxstalls Business Academy Building a full Changing Places suite is in pride of place to ensure that the facility is open to all. Comprising a GH1 ceiling hoist, height adjustable changing trolley and height adjustable basin it is a superb facility that will no doubt be used to full capacity.

New Wall Rail Fixing Method

Here at the Gloucestershire University we used the new innovative wall rail fixing system due to its revolutionary design and great benefits.

This wall rail can be fitted not only to brick and block walls, but also to plasterboard (stud) walls giving great flexibility for mounting the rail system. On this installation the wall rails were fitted directly to stud walls with no other strengthening required. The hoist system covers the whole room, giving the maximum amount of coverage.  A standard traverse rail can cover up to 5 metres and a total weight of 255 kg (40 stone)

With a narrow profile and concealed fixings the wall rail is both discreet and stylish. Its innovative design means that small discrepancies in the width of the room can be overcome without special adaptions. There is even the option for LED lights to be mounted underneath the rails for atmospheric lighting effects!

Future proofing University Changing Places

A point that is often overlooked when considering fixing methods for ceiling hoists, is future maintenance requirements. By law these hoists must be serviced every 6 months under the LOLER 1998 regulations. By bringing all fixings beneath ceiling level, working at height risks are greatly reduced.
